Late Re-Write To Dynamite; Backstage News On Kenny Omega As AAA Champion

Late AEW Dynamite Re-Write

Kenny Omega vs. Joey Janela was added to this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite after a late re-write by Tony Khan, reports Dave Meltzer. The match was added in response to the strong reaction to their match on AEW Dark.

Kenny Omega’s AAA Title Reign

As reported here on, Kenny Omega won the AAA heavyweight title last weekend from Fenix.

This was not a long-term program worked out between AEW and AAA like what happened with The Young Bucks vs. Pentagon Jr. & Fenix, reports Dave Meltzer. Omega as AAA Champion is “a thing in progress” and was acknowledged by AEW, unlike Jon Moxley winning New Japan’s U.S. Title.

Every situation is different and Tony Khan is on record as to saying the relationship between AEW and AAA is very different from the non-relationship with AEW and NJPW. Khan also pointed out it was NJPW’s U.S. title and not the IWGP heavyweight title, which he would have considered acknowledging if one of his talents won it.

As for Omega, he will probably not defend the AAA title on AEW pay-per-view or television because they want to get over the AEW World Championship as the singular world title. There is a possibility he defends it on AEW Dark.
