As previously reported here at WrestlingNews.com, longtime WWE interviewer and announcer Renee Young finished up with the company at SummerSlam.
Young is married to AEW world champion Jon Moxley. A report appeared in a prominent wrestling newsletter that AEW was unaware that Young would be giving notice and begin looking for work elsewhere. The publisher of that newsletter has strong ties to AEW.
It was important to AEW to put out the story that they were surprised by Young’s career choice because AEW has had recent talks with Young and are concerned about potential tampering accusations from WWE. While Young hasn’t committed to anything, she has met in person with Tony Khan and AEW is hopeful of signing her when her WWE non-compete clause expires.
A source with AEW familiar with the talks told WrestlingNews.com that Young has expressed a strong preference for working as a commentator as opposed to a host or interviewer. AEW’s commentary booth has often been crowded, but Khan is said to be very eager to sign Young and is said to be open to the idea of Young being in the commentary booth.
