Possible Reason For Drew McIntyre Becoming WWE Champion Before Survivor Series

Drew McIntyre won the WWE Championship on the go-home episode of Monday Night RAW before Survivor Series. It seems the company had a good reason for this sudden title change.

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained WWE’s reasoning for this last-minute title change. Meltzer said that the company had nothing for Survivor Series. A lot of matches with Orton and McIntyre were done already where Drew won, that is why they had Orton win at Hell In A Cell.

In the end, the company wanted a heel vs face match at Survivor Series. He noted that Randy Orton vs Roman Reigns would have been a “nothing match” at Survivor Series as the two were both heels and people would have cheered for Roman in the end, which WWE did not want.
