Matt Jackson says the decision to crown Chris Jericho the first AEW World Champion was based on the fact he’s the most famous guy in the company, who is also one of the greatest wrestlers of all time.
“We felt like if we want someone to be the identity of this company, it’s got to be the most famous guy who everyone knows and it’s Chris Jericho, who just so happens to be one of the greatest wrestlers of all time,” Matt Jackson said in an interview with The New York Post.
Jackson hyped tonight’s AEW Dynamite premiere, explaining that all it will take is one flip of the channel for the promotion to make an impact on the viewer. He talked about added realism to their product, unscripted promos and the importance of win/loss records.
“In sports, when a team loses a big game it reflects in their interviews,” Matt Jackson said. “It reflects in their behavior, their body language. I want that.”
