WWE Monday Night Raw Results (9/28/20) – Drew McIntyre vs. Robert Roode

WWE Monday Night Raw Results (9/28/20)
From the ThunderDome at Amway Center in Orlando, FL

The announce team is indeed the return of Tom Phillips, Byron Saxton and Samoa Joe.

Ric Flair, Christian, Big Show and Shawn Michaels opened the broadcast as advertised. WWE Champion Drew McIntyre joined them. HBK verified McIntyre didn’t know about their involvement and hoped he wasn’t upset about it. Michaels said if he was upset, it was Flair’s call. McIntyre was fine with it.

Randy Orton came on the big screen and said he hoped McIntyre enjoyed the moment because it wouldn’t last. Orton said he doesn’t have to beg for a rematch, he’ll get a rematch because of who he is. McIntyre issued an open challenge to anyone backstage who hasn’t faced him to meet him for a WWE Championship match on Raw.

This segment accomplished three things. One, HBK made it clear McIntyre didn not know about their involvement. There were some concerns McIntyre was made to look weak with all the help he got at Clash of Champions. Second, Orton clearly teased a rematch at Hell in a Cell. Finally, WWE was sure to drop a mystery challenge with one of the best Monday Night Football games going on opposite on ESPN.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviewed Zelina Vega. Asuka showed up and said she hopes Vega is ready to lose one more time.

Asuka beat Zelina Vega to retain the WWE Raw Women’s Championship. Vega went for a moonsault, Asuka blokced with her knees and locked in the Asuka Lock to get the submission victory. The match was fine, probably better than their bout at Clash of Champions.

Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels, Big Show and Christian were playing poker backstage.

Andrade told Zelina Vega she is nothing without him. He chastised her for blaming everything on him but told her to look at herself. He said Angel Garza is hurt right now because he is the weak link.

Keith Lee beat Andrade. The match was only a couple of minutes and saw Lee winning with the Spirit Bomb. With Angel Garza injured, one would have thought WWE would have realigned Vega and Andrade.

Earlier today, MVP and Shelton Benjamin are shown having lunch. There was a guy sitting next to them and Bobby Lashley came in and said that was his seat. They made his leave his plate and MVP gave it to Lashley.

Backstage, R-Truth played chess with Little Jimmy. A ninja handed him an envelope. It was a message from Tozawa who had been eaten by a shark if Truth was reading the letter. The ninja gave him a briefcase, which contained Tozawa’s black belt. Tozawa out of nowhere rolled Truth up to win the WWE 24/7 Championship. The ninja was Drew Gulak. Truth hit him with the briefcase and took the belt. They’re going to do Truth vs. Tozawa vs. Gulak for the title later in the show.

Backstage, Murphy was sending texts on his phone when Seth Rollins came in. Rollins hugged him and told him it was a big night with the Mysterio family on King’s Court.

An ad ran for the WWE Draft on SmackDown on 10/9 and on Raw on 10/12.

Jerry Lawler out for the King’s Court segment with the Mysterio family. Rey, Angie, Dominik and Aalyah all came out. Rey told Seth he can’t control his own house and now he’s trying to disrupt his. Dominik and Aalyah are his children. Aalyah doesn’t know what to make of Murphy because she is 19. However, anyone around Rollins needs to reevaluate their life because Rollins is a fraud. Rollins came on the big screen and said one of the Mysterios was not telling the truth. He said Aalyah may not be telling the truth about how she feels about Murphy. Rollins claimed to have texts between Aalyah and Murphy and one included a happy birthday message. Aalyah said Murphy isn’t like Rollins and left. Murphy showed up and wasn’t happy with Rollins. He grabbed Rollins. Dominik attacked Murphy and they were separated.

Natalya and Lana came out and said they would stay out there all night if Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax were not stripped of the WWE Women’s tag Team Championship. Adam Pearce said they can’t be stripped but he could give them a match against the newest members of the Raw women’s division. Mandy Rose came out with Dana Brooke. Phillips said Brooke is now a member of the Raw roster.

Mandy Rose & Dana Brooke beat Natalya & Lana. There was nothing to this one as Rose hit a knee strike on Lana and followed it with the pinfall victory.

Aleister Black cut a promo backstage on Kevin Owens.

Kevin Owens beat Aleister Black by disqualification. Black was disqualified for inadvertently elbowing the referee in the abdomen. He had new entrance music.

Mustafa Ali was shown coming out of the locker room of The Hurt Business. He said he must have been lost. MVP said he must have lost his damn mind and shoved him. Apollo Crews and Ricochet came in and held Ali back.

R-Truth beat Akira Tozawa and Drew Gulak in a triple threat match to retain the WWE 24/7 Championship. Truth beat up on both challengers and pinned Gulak to retain.

Charly Caruso asked Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke about their move to Raw. They are coming for the winners of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship match.

Murphy beat Dominik Mysterio. He rolled Dominik up with a handful of tights for the win. After the match, Aalyah asked Dominik to stop. He said he was doing this for their family and their legacy. He said their father is right, she is naïve. She slapped him and stormed off.

Drew McIntyre beat Robert Roode to retain the WWE Championship. Roode hit the Glorious DDT for a near fall but when he went for another, McIntyre dodged it and hit a Claymore Kick off the ropes. He got the pin for the victory. There was interference from Dolph Ziggler, used to protect Roode from being buried.

Backstage, a hooded janitor went into the Legends’ Lounge where Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels, Big Show and Christian were playing poker. The janitor revealed himself as Randy Orton. He had night vision goggles on and turned the lights off. When he turned them back on, the legends were all down with the room trashed. He put the hood back over his head and walked out as referees rushed in.

Neither Retribution nor Raw Underground were included on this show. They did show a Retribution video but none of Shane McMahon’s segment.

  1. Mystery challenger for McIntyre tonight? I’m not sure I have any good guesses. I would love Rey or Aleister if they weren’t wrapped up in other storylines.

    1. Mustafa Ali or Murphy are my new guesses based on the fact that they are advertised for Raw Talk. McIntyre vs. either of them would be a fun main event.
