The idea of adding the stipulation that Hiroshi Tanahashi would receive a shot at the AEW World Championship if he defeated Chris Jericho at Wrestle Kingdom 14 was something the wrestlers themselves came up with.
Tony Khan and Rocky Romero, who works for NJPW, got involved and Khan obviously approved the usage of the title in the storyline. While Khan allowed it for use at Wrestle Kingdom 14, it will not be part of AEW storyline or mentioned on their television or social media.
Hard feelings between NJPW and AEW still exist and there are obstacles that must be overcome if the two sides are going to eventually work together.
As previously noted, both Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley have separate agreements with NJPW that allows for them to work there as long as it doesn’t conflict with their respective AEW schedules.
