Finn Balor was able to retain his NXT Championship against Kyle O’Reilly at NXT TakeOver 31. However, he suffered a jaw injury during the match, where he broke his jaw in two places.
Balor underwent surgery for his injury last week and has been recovering since then. During this week’s NXT, it was said the company will be waiting to see how Balor recuperates. The estimated timetable for his return could see him return in six weeks.
On Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez discussed Finn Balor’s situation. He noted that it was a touch and go situation. If Balor looks to be recovering quickly, then he will still be a champion. However, if he is not, then he will have to relinquish his NXT Championship.
This would not be the first time Balor will have to relinquish a title as he had to relinquish the Universal Title in 2016 following an injury.
