WWE NXT Results – 8/5/2020
From Full Sail University in Winter Park, FL

#1 Contender’s Match: Dakota Kai def. Rhea Ripley via pinfall. The finish saw Mercedes Martinez interfere by kicking Ripley on the apron before Kai nailed her GTK kick for the win. Martinez came back to take Ripley out again after the bell.

We come back from commercial to see a clip of Pat McAfee talking to Shawn Michaels earlier today.

Bronson Reed def. Shane Thorne via pinfall following a splash from the top rope. Thorne was able to showcase his talents once again after months off TV, but came up short to Bronson, who is being pushed for TakeOver.

Robert Stone tells McKenzie Mitchell that Ripley may be done with them, but the Robert Stone Brand isn’t done with her.

Qualifying Match: Damian Priest def. Oney Lorcan & Ridge Holland via pinfall when he hit The Reckoning on Lorcan for the win. NXT UK’s Holland impressed in his debut and is ready to be on NXT TV more often. Priest is a good pick to advance to TakeOver.

Keith Lee def. Cameron Grimes via pinfall with his power slam finisher. After, Scarlett’s voice comes over before Karrion Kross appears on the tron and sends another threat.

William Regal appears to announce Dexter Lumis is not medically cleared for TakeOver. He’s also had complaints from Gargano and Balor about their status. So, in two weeks, Gargano, Balor, Holland, and another competitor will compete in two singles matches to fill the last two spots.

Legado Del Fantasma drag Fandango out to the ring while cutting a promo. Tyler Breeze tries to make the save, but gets laid out as well.

Pat McAfee joins commentary for the remainder of the show.

Tegan Nox def. Indi Hartwell via pinfall with the Shiniest Wizard.

NXT Tag Team Championship Match: Imperium (c) def. Undisputed Era to retain. While on commentary, McAfee started talking trash about Cole again, which upset Beth Phoenix to point of getting off commentary. Toward the end, Cole gets mad and tosses water in Pat’s face. Refs, Triple H, and Shawn keep the two separated. The commotion distracts Undisputed Era in the ring, resulting in Imperium scoring the win.

After the match, McAfee comes back to call Cole a “short, little b*tch.” McAfee lands a kick on Cole before being ejected from the building.

Confirmed for next week’s show:

  • Kushida vs. Cameron Grimes vs. a mystery opponent in a TakeOver qualifying match
  • Damian Priest vs. Bronson Reed
  • Karrion Kross vs. Danny Burch
