WWE NXT Results (9/23/20) – Women’s Battle Royal, Gauntlet Eliminator

Welcome to our live coverage of tonight’s episode of WWE NXT on USA Network. A women’s battle royal and five-man Gauntlet Eliminator will take place.

WWE NXT Results – 9/23/2020

Tom Phillips and Beth Phoenix are calling the show with Vic Joseph and Wade Barrett “having the night off.” It’s also worth noting there’s no talent in the crowd, seemingly confirming a COVID-19 outbreak has hit the black-and-yellow brand.

#1 Contender’s Battle Royal: Candice LeRae eliminated Shotzi Blackheart to win. Candice took out Tegan backstage in a vicious assault. Several independent talent and/or new signees competed but were tossed out early. Marina Shafir took part. Ripley and Gonzalez dominated until they eliminated each other. LeRae battled Shotzi in the final minutes before successfully tossing her out.

Damian Priest addresses defending against Gargano at TakeOver. Priest will face Austin Theory tonight, but his record doesn’t live up to his talent.

Tommaso Ciampa def. Jake Atlas via pinfall with a modified Fairy Tale Ending. Atlas had a bit of offense at the start before Ciampa overcame.

Roderick Strong & Danny Burch def. Fabian Aichner & Raul Mendoza via pinfall with Burch going over Mendoza. Burch/Lorcan and Undisputed Era will now face each other next week to determine Breezango’s next challengers.

Austin Theory is warming up while being asked about facing Priest. Gargano interrupts and hypes Theory up.

Damian Priest def. Austin Theory via pinfall. Gargano superkicked Priest after.

A vignette aired showing someone breaking into a case holding the NXT Championship. A former champion seems to be returning on 10-4-20… TakeOver.

Ridge Holland def. Antonio Deluca via pinfall in a dominant match.

Backstage, Io Shirai is asked about Candice LeRae until LeRae interrupts. Priest comes in and the refs break up Gargano/LeRae from Shirai/Priest.

Shotzi Blackheart vs. Dakota Kai set for next week’s show, plus Priest & Shirai vs. Gargano & LeRae ahead of TakeOver.

Gauntlet Eliminator: Kyle O’Reilly eliminated Cameron Grimes to become the number one contender to NXT Champion Finn Balor.

  • Order of entrants: Kushida, O’Reilly, Reed, Thatcher, Grimes
  • Dream took Kushida out, setting up Reed pinning Kushida for the first elimination
  • O’Reilly pinned Reed
  • O’Reilly pinned Thatcher
  • O’Reilly submitted Grimes for the win

Cole and Strong congratulate O’Reilly in the ring before Finn Balor appears for a stare-down. Balor vs. O’Reilly will headline TakeOver on Oct. 4th.
