As it turns out, The Undertaker being announced for the September 10 episode of SmackDown in New York City was not due to slower than expected ticket sales, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Undertaker’s upcoming appearance had been planned, WWE just hadn’t announced it until last week.
Undertaker is not scheduled to work the company’s Clash of the Champions pay-per-view on September 14, even though that episode of SmackDown will be the go-home episode to the pay-per-view. It’s possible WWE could shoot an angle that would build to his return on the SmackDown 20th Anniversary show from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, which will be the first FOX episode on Friday, October 4.
The plan as of early this week was for Undertaker to just appear on SmackDown and not wrestle on September 10 from Madison Square Garden in New York City.
