Impact Wrestling announced on Thursday that the company has terminated its relationship with Tessa Blanchard, effectively stripping her of the Impact World Championship.
PWInsider published the following statement from Impact:
“Impact Wrestling confirmed that it has terminated its relationship with Tessa Blanchard and stripped her of the Impact Wrestling World Championship.”
The relationship between Impact and Blanchard took a turn during the pandemic. Blanchard was stuck in Mexico due to travel bans, but failed to submit video footage requested by Impact.
According to PWInsider’s report, Blanchard’s footage was slated to be edited in as a sit-down interview with Josh Mathews, but that episode had to be changed around when she failed to participate.
It’s being said that “there were attempts made to get Blanchard to return and drop the title but that the two sides were not able to come to terms, leading to Impact opting to cut bait and move forward.”
Blanchard was scheduled to defend the title in the main event of Slammiversary against Michael Elgin, Eddie Edwards, Ace Austin, and Trey. There’s no word yet on what the main event will now be in the wake of Blanchard’s departure and Michael Elgin’s suspension.
