WWE confirmed that Nikki Cross, Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax are not cleared to compete.

Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro beat Kalisto and Lince Dorado to retain the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship in a Kickoff match. The finish saw Cesaro hit The Spin on Kalisto right into the Kinshasa from Nakamura. Nakamura covered for the pinfall victory. The match was fine but the outcome was more than obvious.

Sami Zayn beat Jeff Hardy and AJ Styles in a triple threat ladder match to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Both the WWE Intercontinental Champion belt and the title carried by Sami Zayn were hanging above the ring. Hardy landed a Swanton Bomb on Zayn that broke the ladder. The finish saw Zayn and Styles fight on a ladder, with Hardy taking out Styles. Zayn was in handcuffs but this allowed for him to get out and climb up and pull down both title belts. Afterwards, Kayla Braxton interviewed Zayn who said he is still Intercontinental Champion. The match was outstanding and nearly a half hour long. While the normal formula is to open hot, this may be the match of the night out of the gate.

They showed a clip of R-Truth as a gold miner on the Kickoff. Backstage, R-Truth was shown dressed as a gold miner. A referee asked him what he was doing in their room. He blamed Little Jimmy and Drew Gulak rolled him up from behind to the WWE 24/7 Championship.

Asuka beat Zelina Vega to retain the WWE Raw Women’s Championship. The Raw announce team of Tom Phillips, Byron Saxton and Samoa Joe were back together again for this one. The finish saw Vega go for a pin but Asuka locked in the Asuka Lock to get the submission victory. After the match, Asuka put over her opponent on the mic but said she wasn’t ready for Asuka. Vega got up and bowed at her, Asuka bowed but was kicked by Vega. Asuka got on the mic and yelled in Japanese while Vega went up the ramp. This was fine for what it was, making it so Vega did not lose credibility and has the chance for a rematch.

Bobby Lashley w/MVP & Shelton Benjamin beat Apollo Crews to retain the WWE United States Championship. This was a forgettable match that saw Lashley put him in the Full Nelson to get the submission victory. Crews has not been booked as a viable threat to Lashley and this was filler to re-emphasize that.

“The Street Profits” Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford beat Angel Garza and Andrade in 8:15 to retain the WWE Raw Tag Team Championship. The finish saw Ford land a kick on Andrade and follow it with a tag. Dawkins hit a Sky High Slam and covered him. Andrade kicked out at two but the referee called for the bell. They went to an abort finish because Angel Garza was injured.

They announced the WWE Draft will take place on October 9 on SmackDown and October 12 on Raw.

Drew Gulak was being interviewed backstage when R-Truth hit him out of nowhere to win the WWE 24/7 title.

Asuka beat Bayley via disqualification in a match for the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship. The finish saw Bayley get herself disqualified less than five minutes in after using a chair. Bayley lifted up her title after the match and was attacked by Sasha Banks. Banks was wearing a neck brace. Bayley got a chair and a kendo stick and they brawled. Bayley ended up getting away.

Drew McIntyre beat Randy Orton in an Ambulance Match to retain the WWE Championship. Christian, Big Show and Shawn Michaels made surprise appearances. The finish saw McIntyre punt kick Orton in the head and shove him in the ambulance to win the match. Afterwards, the referee slapped the doors of the ambulance and walked over to the driver’s side where Ric Flair was behind the wheel. Flair turned on the siren and drove off.

WWE Hell in a Cell will take place on Sunday, October 25, 2020.

Roman Reigns beat Jey Uso to retain the WWE Universal Championship. Roman worked without a shirt, as we noted last week. There was a lot of good storytelling with Roman snapping on Uso. Jimmy Uso limped out with a white towel and told Jey he didn’t need to prove anything. Jey told him not to throw in the towel and took more punches from Reigns. Jimmy ended up throwing in the towel to end the match. After the match, Jimmy got in the ring and covered his brother. He told Roman they are family and to chill. Heyman brought Reigns the red lei Jey wore out to the ring and put it around his neck. Corey Graves questioned what Reigns was capable of if he coul do this to his own family.
